Lesson Agenda:
Students, you must choose your mission for this lesson. Decide which assessment you would like to complete as your culminating assignment.
Assessment Options:
Assessment Options:
- Option One: It is your senior year. You have finally made it. You are graduating as valedictorian from your high school, knowing you have a full scholarship to your chosen university. Modeling the speech you choose to analyze, construct your own commencement address for your graduating classmates, the school faculty, the community, and your family. You must send a message to those listening with solid evidence for your beliefs. (2 minutes) You will record yourself giving the speech using iMovie.
- Option Two: What does it take to succeed? Since you are now 9th graders, create a brief visual aid and presentation (using Keynote, Comic Life, Voki, Prezi, iMovie, etc) outlining, in your own voice, what you believe it takes to survive in middle school both academically and socially. (2 minutes)
- Delving In: Create a word cloud with a partner focusing on the word Success.
- Analyzing Rhetoric: Choose one of the three commencement addresses listed. You will work with a partner to analyze one of the speeches. You will view the speech and complete an annotation and objective summary activity.
- Creative Inquiry: You will choose one of the assessment options from above to complete the lesson.
